Awareness sessions have been conducted at Kakching Khullen Upper Primary School, Kakching Khunou High School, Kakching Makha High School, Practising Junior High School, Kakching Turel Wangma Junior High School, Irengband Upper Primary School, also at several other government and private schools across the district.

The programme will continue until July 31, covering schools throughout the district. It aims to educate students on the importance of washing their hands before meals and maintaining proper hand hygiene as an effective measure to prevent diarrhoeal and other water-borne diseases.

The handwashing awareness programme forms an integral part of the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026, an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare aimed at reducing the incidence of childhood diarrhoea, particularly during the monsoon season.

The campaign focuses on preventive interventions by promoting proper handwashing with soap, safe drinking water and improved sanitation, while also ensuring the availability and use of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and Zinc for the effective management of diarrhoeal diseases.

Under the campaign, schools are identified as important platforms for promoting hand hygiene among children through awareness activities and demonstrations, encouraging the adoption of healthy practices that help prevent the transmission of diarrhoeal and other water-borne diseases.
