Kangpokpi: The District Administration, led by District Collector and NCORD Chairperson, Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, today convened a review meeting to evaluate the district’s ongoing battle against drug trafficking and substance abuse.
The session focused on fortifying inter-agency coordination to effectively curb the inflow of illicit substances and address the consumption of tobacco and alcohol. Chairperson Mahesh Chaudhari reviewed comprehensive action plans presented by the State Police, BSF, CRPF, and key departments. Emphasizing that collaboration is the cornerstone of the NCORD initiative, the Chairperson commended the security forces for their steadfast commitment and directed all departments to maintain heightened vigilance to ensure a drug-free environment in the district.
The Chairperson further requested that the Kangpokpi District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) establish a comprehensive framework to combat drug-related issues through a ten-point action plan involving various departments and agencies. These strategic measures include mapping drug sales hotspots by the Police and NAB, conducting joint inter-departmental operations for the identification and destruction of illicit poppy cultivation, and implementing preventive actions through village leadership. Furthermore, the committee is prioritizing public health and awareness by organizing mass IEC campaigns in schools and colleges, sensitizing villages through Civil Action Plans, regulating pharmaceutical gateways to prevent abuse, and overseeing treatment and rehabilitation services. Additionally, the plan promotes alternative livelihoods through agricultural support and mandates regular coordination meetings to ensure the effective implementation of these policies across relevant district authorities and agencies.
