Imphal: To mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Assam Rifles joined forces with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Imphal, to execute a high-impact Training-cum-Awareness Programme on 26 June 2026. Convened at the Mantripukhri Garrison in Imphal East district, the joint collaborative drive directly aligned with this year’s global theme, ‘World drug problem: persisting issues, new challenges, innovative responses’, by translating institutional strategy into actionable, science-backed field solutions.
The sessions were strategically structured to equip front-line security forces with the critical operational intelligence needed to disrupt illicit trafficking networks. Expert handlers from the NCB led intensive technical modules focusing heavily on the evolving drug scenario in Manipur and the systematic classification and precise identification of contraband substances. To reinforce operational legality, participants were thoroughly trained on the specific Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) related legal frameworks under the newly enforced Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Reflecting the high priority of inter-agency cooperation, senior leadership from Assam Rifles formally felicitated the visiting NCB officials, concluding the core training blocks with a commemorative group photograph. The highly interactive programme drew a combined strength of nearly 220 officials and troops from the Indian Army and Assam Rifles. By bridging the gap between specialized narcotics intelligence and tactical military enforcement, this collaborative milestone drastically enhances the collective capacity of security forces to maintain law and order, assist law enforcement agencies and systematically dismantle the drug menace in the state.
