Imphal: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has stressed that to foster a good society, people must refrain from using drugs.
The Chief Minister made the above statement while attending the flagging-off ceremony of the 10 KM Mega Awareness Run, organised in observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, under the theme “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses” at the Western Gate of Kangla, Imphal, today.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister appreciated all the participants of the awareness run and said that he was happy to witness healthy youths. Khemchand Singh raised the slogan “No to Drugs” during the gathering. And, he led the other dignitaries in signing a pledge against drugs.
Speaking on the occasion, Mukesh Singh, Director General of Police (DGP) Manipur stated that this is a fight not only undertaken by the Manipur Police but expect the entire population of the State to actively take part in the fight against the drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
It may be mentioned that the DGP himself participated in the 10 KM Mega Awareness Run in the men’s 40-plus category.
The programme organised by the Manipur Police Department was attended by Govindas Konthoujam, Minister (Home); Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, Chief Secretary of Manipur; and high-ranking police personnel among others.
Around 1,300 participants took part in the 10 KM Mega Awareness Run, which was conducted in four categories: Open Men, Open Women, Men (40 years and above), and Women (40 years and above). Winners in each category will be awarded a cash prizes of Rupees 10,000 for the first position, Rupees 5,000 for the second position, and Rupees 3,000 for the third position. In addition, consolation prize of Rupees 1,000 will be awarded to the selected participants.
