Imphal: In a major effort to foster holistic health, mental resilience and community bonding, Assam Rifles organised a series of comprehensive yoga sessions and community wellness activities across multiple districts of Manipur. Held in the lead-up to and in solemn observance of the 12th International Day of Yoga, these widespread events aligned with the global theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, focusing on enhancing longevity, preventive healthcare and life discipline across all age groups.
The extensive wellness campaign successfully covered remote and border regions across Churachandpur, Kakching, Tengnoupal and Chandel districts. In Churachandpur district, the central event was held at Khuga and Veng, with parallel sessions running simultaneously across all local operating bases. In Kakching district, the initiative was spearheaded at the Pallel Garrison, while a massive outreach across Tengnoupal district brought together people at Moreh, Kwatha, Sita and the RRC Khudengthabi base. Simultaneously, service personnel and locals joined the movement at Modi and Chandel town within Chandel district.
The multi-location celebrations witnessed a massive turnout of approximately 2,372 participants, demonstrating strong civil-military solidarity. This collective gathering comprised local villagers, school children, family members, NCC cadets and Agniveer aspirants who performed alongside a total of 1,892 security personnel and civil officials. At the border town of Moreh, the gathering reflected close inter-agency cooperation as officials from the Border Security Force, Immigration Bureau and Integrated Check Post staff joined the local populace.
Expert supervision guided the sessions to ensure maximum benefit. At the Pallel Garrison, Mrs Elangbam Anita, a senior full-time faculty member of the Art of Living International Organisation, led the participants through specialised yoga asanas, deep-breathing techniques and meditation routines aimed at stress relief and mental focus. To amplify the message of healthy living, Assam Rifles utilised its community radio station, CRS Radio Highway, broadcasting a special wellness podcast and radio programme from Pallel to educate the wider public on healthy lifestyle choices and stress management.
Through targeted breathing exercises and physical postures, the sessions offered practical tools for enhancing flexibility, concentration and physical endurance. By engaging the youth, families and local border communities, the week-long initiative went beyond physical fitness to create a culture of self-improvement and mutual harmony. The events concluded successfully, reinforcing the vital role of regular yoga practice in daily routines and further cementing the relationship between the security forces and the people of Manipur.
