Imphal: On 17 May 2026, a detachment of 25 personnel of Assam Rifles actively assisted in the successful conduct of the 7th Khongjom War Memorial Cross Country Race at Sangaiyumpham in Thoubal district. Organised by the Sports Coaching Foundation of Manipur under the vibrant theme “Run for Roots & Race for Pride”, this grand sporting event drew an enthusiastic assembly of approximately 300 young athletes, students and local residents. Competitors showcased immense physical grit across various competitive categories, including specific one to five-kilometre distance runs tailored for both men and women in the open category.
The force extended wholehearted support to the organisers by undertaking critical security arrangements, route management measures and medical hydration points to ensure a safe environment. Additionally, the troops provided extensive administrative coordination and organised a wholesome breakfast for all 300 participants. During the event, personnel interacted closely with local residents, Civil Society Organisations and sports enthusiasts, reinforcing mutual trust and cooperation. While being operationally committed at all times, the force consistently looks beyond its primary security mandates to foster positive engagement with the populace. This collective effort served as a vital platform to encourage youth towards sports and fitness, directly aiding the daily lives of the remote populace by nurturing unity, discipline, national pride and patriotism among the younger generation.
