Imphal: In a prompt humanitarian response, troops of Assam Rifles at Shangshak rescued two seriously injured civilians following a vehicle accident near Gamnoum Village in Kamjong district on 16 May 2026.
The incident occurred when a loaded Shaktiman vehicle lost balance while negotiating a sharp turn near Gamnoum Village and fell from a height, resulting in severe injuries to two civilians from Pushing Village, identified as Somipam (32 years) and Ningringam (28 years). Upon receiving information about the accident, troops of Assam Rifles located at Shangshak swiftly mobilised to the site along with Assam Rifles medical officials.
Traversing the challenging mountainous terrain from their location to the accident site, the rescue team reached the spot without delay. With assistance from local residents, the troops carried out an immediate rescue operation and safely evacuated the injured individuals to the medical inspection room for urgent care. Both casualties were administered first aid treatment, wound dressing and IV fluid support to stabilise their condition. Following initial medical management, the injured civilians were referred to a higher medical centre in Imphal for advanced treatment and further care.
The timely response and coordinated efforts of Assam Rifles personnel, medical staff and local civilians underscored the crucial role of the security forces in emergency crisis management, playing a vital role in saving lives and ensuring prompt medical assistance during the critical golden hour.
