Assam Rifles hosts Inter-Village sports meet in Chandel

Imphal: The border villages of Chandel District witnessed a vibrant display of athleticism and local talent as Assam Rifles organised the Inter-Village Sports Meet 2026 from 24 to 25 April. The two-day event brought together youth from Sehlon, Hengkot, Tuitang, Old Samtal, Phaiphenkot, Joupi, Gumnom, Phoilen, Wayang and Kovang, fostering a sense of healthy competition and mutual respect in the remote border region.

The meet featured structured league matches in both volleyball and football, designed to ensure maximum participation across the ten villages. In a spirited show of inclusivity, volleyball matches were held for both men and women, featuring competitive fixtures between village teams and Assam Rifles personnel. The football league similarly captivated the 253 spectators who gathered from Sehlon and neighbouring areas to cheer for their respective sides.

In the men’s volleyball segment, Team Joupi claimed the top spot against Team Sehlon, while the football championship was secured by Team Sehlon following a hard-fought victory over Team Joupi. The event concluded with a ceremony where trophies, medals and cash prizes were awarded to the winners. This sporting initiative successfully strengthened the bond between the 54 officials and the local community through the shared language of sport.
