Imphal: Expanding its ongoing public health mission, Assam Rifles observed World Malaria Day 2026 by conducting a series of community-centric initiatives across the border districts of Chandel and Kamjong. Celebrated annually on 25 April, the day serves as a global reminder of the persistent fight against the disease. This year, the events were aligned with the theme, “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.”, reflecting a renewed urgency to secure a malaria-free future for vulnerable populations.

In the Khengjoi Sub Division of Chandel District, Assam Rifles organised comprehensive cleanliness drives at Phaisanjang and Molchum villages. A total of 80 participants, including local volunteers and officials, engaged in sanitation activities and Malathion spraying to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds. Simultaneously, sessions on water-borne diseases were conducted for school children to instill life-saving hygiene practices from a young age. These simultaneous interventions ensured that remote border communities remain equipped with the first line of defence against preventable illnesses.

The momentum continued in Kamjong District, where awareness campaigns were held at Kangpat Khullen and Phaikoh villages. Personnel educated village elders and youth on transmission modes, the vital use of mosquito nets and the significance of early symptom detection to prevent complications. By sensitising the youth to act as ambassadors of change, the initiative fostered deep-rooted community participation. These combined efforts across multiple districts reinforce the steadfast commitment of Assam Rifles to serve and protect the people of Manipur through proactive healthcare and nation-building initiatives.
