Kakching: The World Earth Day, 2026 was observed across various schools in Kakching district today organised by the Zonal Education Office (ZEO), Kakching under the supervision of the District Administration Kakching. The observance was held in line with this year’s global theme, “Our Power, Our Planet” highlighting the environmental challenges and need for collective responsibility to protect/preserve our environment.
As part of the programme, students from different schools in the district participated in a national webinar organised under the aegis of Eco Clubs for Mission Life of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education. The webinar featured Kartikeya V. Sarabhai, Founder and Director of the Centre for Environment Education and Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki, Founder of the Energy Swaraj Foundation, as key speakers.
Altogether, 1,267 participants, including teachers and students from 44 schools in the district, attended the national webinar session.
In addition to the webinar, various activities such as tree plantation drives and awareness programmes were organised across schools to promote environmental consciousness among students. Teachers also conducted sessions highlighting the importance of environmental protection and the adoption of sustainable living practices at the school level.
It may be mentioned that Earth Day is observed every year on April 22 to raise awareness about environmental protection and the need for sustainable living. It brings people across the world together to address issues such as climate change, pollution, and loss of biodiversity. (DIO)
