Kakching: Kakching district celebrated the 77th Republic Day on Monday, with the main function held at the District Sports Association (DSA) Ground, Kakching Turel Wangma. Deputy Commissioner Uppuluri Chaitanya, IAS, attended the programme as Chief Guest and hoisted the National Flag.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner said over 300 internally displaced families have returned to their original localities, including those who had taken shelter in other valley districts. He attributed this progress to the coordinated efforts of the district administration, police, security forces, and public cooperation, and assured that rehabilitation efforts are continuing to ensure no family is left behind.
He further stated that the government is extending assistance and assurances to returning families, including a special rehabilitation package along with benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin. Continuous security measures are also being taken to ensure safe rehabilitation.

Highlighting youth development, the Deputy Commissioner said several youths from Kakching have secured jobs in private companies in cities such as Bengaluru and New Delhi. Ongoing training programmes in cabin crew services and adult caregiving were also mentioned, offering employment opportunities within and outside the country.
The Deputy Commissioner also informed that state bus services from Imphal to Wabagai and Sugnu have been recommissioned to restore connectivity. He added that a fully functional District Transport Office is now operating from the Deputy Commissioner Office Complex, providing transport-related services to the public.
