Imphal: The Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) Court, Imphal West, on Friday granted bail to Laishram Bijoy Singh, 30, of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai, who was arrested in connection with the abetment of his wife Kh. Anandi’s suicide.
Bijoy had initially been remanded in custody until September 24 for allegedly abetting the suicide of Anandi, 28, who was found hanging at her husband’s home on September 2 around 6 pm. Anandi passed away later at ASIAN Hospital, Kwakeithel, according to reports.
An FIR was registered after a complaint was lodged by Anandi’s father, naming Bijoy as the primary suspect. He had been in judicial custody at Sajiwa Jail for the past month.
After hearing submissions from both the defense counsel, Advocate N. Bupenda Meitei, and the Additional Public Prosecutor representing the State of Manipur, the court granted Bijoy bail. He was ordered to be released from Sajiwa Jail upon posting a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh, along with a surety of the same amount.
The court’s order for his release was issued on October 10, 2024.
