Shillong: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong announced the successful conclusion of the 2nd International Conference on Economics and Public Policy (ICEP-II). This year’s event brought together around 55 esteemed participants from across India, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas under the theme “Emerging Frontiers in Inclusive Growth and Development.” The conference was organized in partnership with the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, as the Knowledge Partner, and supported by North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO).
ICEP-II received 119 research paper submissions, with 44 selected for presentation across ten thematic tracks, including Health and Education, Sustainable Development, Climate Finance, and Gender and Cultural Diversity. This diversity highlighted the conference’s role as a platform for addressing key economic issues through innovative research.
The event commenced with a keynote address from Chief Guest Dr. Abhiroop Mukhopadhyay, Professor at the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi. His speech, titled “Human Capital in India: Lenses Old and New,” underscored the crucial intersections of education, health, and labor reforms in India’s economic development.
On the first day, six technical sessions featured 28 presentations on various critical topics. The day concluded with a compelling discussion led by Dr. Christine Farias and Dr. Gerard Farias from the University of New York, focusing on the balance between growth and ecological sustainability.
The second day continued with a keynote session by Dr. Syed Shurid Khan from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. He emphasized the role of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in corporate strategies to promote sustainable and inclusive growth in Southeast Asia. Virtual participation from renowned delegates further enriched the discussions.
The Best Paper awards at ICEP-II were presented to Ajay Sharma (IIM Indore) for “Commuting, Spatial Flexibility, and Urban Wage Premium: Evidence from India,” Prateek Sharma (IIM Udaipur) for “Parental Migration and Intergenerational Educational Transmission,” and Kirti Gupta (RBI) for “Fuelling Electric Vehicles Growth: Factors That Matter in India’s Electric Vehicle Growth Story,” according to a press release from IIM Shillong’s media cell.
