Kamjong: In a dynamic effort to promote a drug-free lifestyle among the youth, the District Administration of Kamjong, in collaboration with the Eastern Students’ Union and Nongman Village Students’ Union, organized a two-day 7-a-side football and volleyball tournament under the theme “Role of Youth in Combating Drugs” as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. The event took place on October 7th and 8th, 2024, at Nongman Village in Phungyar Block, Kamjong district.
The tournament was graced by the presence of Eastern Students’ Union President, Wungnaothan Chithung, Headman of Nongman Village, Ishmael Sareo, along with village elders, church leaders, and other well-wishers.
In his speech, Wungnaothan Chithung thanked the Deputy Commissioner of Kamjong for initiating such a meaningful program in Nongman and nearby villages, which are located at the remote border area. He emphasized the significance of these events in fostering a positive, drug-free environment and encouraged the youth to steer clear of drugs and embrace healthy living. He also urged them to become messengers of this message to those affected by substance abuse.
Nongman Village Headman, Ishmael Sareo, expressed his appreciation to the District Administration, requesting similar programs be organized more frequently to help redirect the youth’s focus from drugs to sports.
The two-day tournament, aimed at promoting a drug-free lifestyle while fostering sportsmanship, saw five teams from neighboring villages competing. The Nongman Youth Club emerged as the football champions, while Gangster Volleyball Club won the volleyball event.
The event also featured a Walkathon and Signature Campaign, with around 400 enthusiastic participants from nearby villages, creating a vibrant atmosphere in support of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
Despite heavy rain and challenging weather conditions, the event concluded peacefully with expressions of gratitude to God.
