New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) celebrated its 92nd anniversary in grand style on Tuesday at Air Force Station Tambaram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The event was marked by a flawless ceremonial parade, an exhilarating display of air power, and a static exhibition showcasing cutting-edge equipment. Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan was the guest of honor, while the ceremonial parade was reviewed by Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh.

In his address, the Chief of Air Staff emphasized the importance of IAF’s readiness to handle any situation that may threaten national security. He highlighted the constantly changing global security landscape and noted that recent conflicts have underscored the critical need for a robust and capable air force. He also stressed that leveraging the latest technologies and fostering innovative thinking will be key to success in the current multi-domain operational environment.

Air Chief Marshal AP Singh stated that this year’s Air Force Day theme, ‘Bhartiya Vayu Sena: Saksham, Sashakt, Aatmanirbhar’ (Capable, Strong, Self-reliant Indian Air Force), encapsulates the IAF’s vision. He acknowledged the IAF’s advancements in technology and operational capabilities and reiterated the force’s commitment to achieving self-reliance (Aatmanirbharta) in defense research and development (R&D) and manufacturing. Singh highlighted the IAF’s efforts to support the Make in India initiative by partnering with MSMEs, startups, innovators, R&D institutions, and academia.

Reflecting on the significance of Air Force Day, the Chief of Air Staff called on air warriors to recommit themselves to the nation, celebrate past accomplishments, identify areas for improvement, and align with future objectives. He pointed to the IAF’s achievements over the past year, particularly in delivering weapons with precision and showcasing its combat readiness during the Vayu Shakti firepower demonstration at Pokhran Range in February 2024.

Singh also noted the IAF’s expanded participation in bilateral and multilateral exercises with allied nations, citing the successful hosting of Tarang Shakti, India’s largest multinational air exercise, as a testament to the professionalism of the nation’s air warriors. Additionally, he reaffirmed the IAF’s role as first responders in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations, both domestically and internationally, and underscored the importance of ensuring the welfare of IAF personnel and their families.

Ceremonial Parade

The day’s celebrations commenced with the ceremonial parade, featuring the presentation of the President’s Colours, a symbol of pride, unity, and strength. The event was further enhanced by the patriotic melodies of the Tri-Services Band. The Air Warrior Drill Team captivated the audience with their precision and synchronized movements, leaving a lasting impression.

Following the parade, the skies over Chennai came alive with a thrilling air display. Aircraft such as the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, Sukhoi-30 MKI, and Pilatus performed daring low-level aerobatics. The Suryakiran Aerobatic Team and Sarang Helicopter Display Team painted the sky in the colors of the national flag, mesmerizing the crowd with their intricate maneuvers.

Static Display

The static display showcased advanced technology, featuring assets such as the ALH Mk-4 helicopter, C-295 transport aircraft, Akash Missile Defence System, HTT-40 trainer, and the Rohini radar.
