Imphal: The Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Manipur, in collaboration with the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU), organized a social service and tree plantation programme at Irabot Square, Lilasing Khongnangkhong, on Saturday.
This initiative was part of the ongoing “Swachhata Hi Seva, 2024” campaign, observed nationwide under the theme “Swabhav Swachhata Sanskaar Swachhata.”
During the event, M. Joy Singh, Commissioner of IPR, highlighted the programme’s focus on cleanliness and proper waste management, in alignment with the Swachh Bharat Mission. He emphasized that the mission, launched in 2014, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
The Commissioner noted that the cleanliness drive was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of not only an independent India but a clean and developed nation, serving as a tribute to him. He added that the tree plantation initiative, under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, would contribute to maintaining a healthy ecosystem. He also thanked the staff of the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) for their support in the event.
M. Joy Singh reminded attendees that cleanliness begins at home and called on everyone to work sincerely, be dedicated, and cooperate to ensure a clean, healthy, and developed Manipur and nation.
The programme was attended by IPR Director Dr. Th. Charanjeet Singh, AMWJU President Bijoy Kakchingtabam, officials and staff of DIPR, AMWJU standing committee members, and staff of IMC.
