Imphal: The Department of Education, Government of Manipur, organized the State Level Celebration of Teacher’s Day on Thursday at the Auditorium of MFSDS, Palace Compound, Imphal. The event’s main highlight was the presentation of the State Teacher’s Awards for Education (S) and the launch of the “Chief Minister’s Award for Educational Excellence, 2024” for Education (U).
Education Minister Th. Basanta Kumar Singh graced the event as the chief guest, with Commissioner (Education) H. Gyan Prakash, Director (University and Higher Education) Dr. Rangitabali Waikhom, and Director (Education-S) L. Nandakumar Singh attending as the president and guests of honor.
In his address, Minister Th. Basanta Kumar Singh praised the crucial role teachers play in shaping the minds of individuals, serving as constant guides. He commended the dedication and commitment of the teaching community in nurturing students’ lives.
The Minister highlighted Manipur’s strong performance in the National Achievement Survey (NAS), a comprehensive educational assessment conducted every three years in India. Manipur has excelled in various categories, including Class III, V, VIII, and X standards, scoring above the national average. Among North Eastern states, Manipur topped the results, an achievement the Minister attributed to the hard work of the state’s teachers.
He also mentioned the progress of the School Fagathansi Mission, initiated under the vision of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. So far, 120 model schools (two per assembly constituency) have been established, with plans to upgrade more government schools to model schools in future phases. The Minister emphasized that schools should foster pride among both students and teachers.
Eight colleges received the “Chief Minister’s Award for Educational Excellence, 2024” for Education (U), along with cash prizes. The awarded institutions include Manipur College, Don Bosco College, Thoubal College, Kamakhya Pemton College, S.K. Women’s College, Waikhom Mani Girls College, Mount Everest College, and TS Paul Manipur Women’s College.
As part of the Teacher’s Day celebration, six teachers were honored with the State Teacher’s Awards, 2024. The awardees are Lisham Roma Devi (Primary Teacher, Athokpam Jr. High School), Ch. Damayenti Devi (Arts Graduate Teacher, Changangei Jr. High School), Akoijam Sundari Devi (Arts Graduate Teacher, Ningthoukhong Hr. Sec. School), Hriiziio Adahe (Science Graduate Teacher, Mao Maram Hr. Sec. School), P. Nipendro Singh (Principal, Model Hr. Sec. School), and Binodkumar Sharma (Hindi Graduate Teacher, Irang Pt-II Govt. High School). Each received a citation and a cash award of Rs. 50,000.
Additionally, the State Government recognized the Principals and Headmasters of 31 Government Schools that achieved a 100% pass rate in the High School Leaving Certificate Examination-2024 of BOSEM, and the Principals/Headmasters of 12 Government Schools that achieved a 100% pass rate in the Higher Secondary Examination-2024 of COHSEM.
Sixty-eight teachers from government schools, whose students topped subjects in the Higher Secondary Examination-2024 of the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur, were also honored with certificates and mementos.
