Imphal: On August 30, in two separate operations, Assam Rifles recovered a large cache of areca nuts in the general areas of Machi and Khampang Khullen, near Sita Village in Tengnoupal District, Manipur.
During routine area domination patrols, Assam Rifles teams from Modi and Tengnoupal intercepted and inspected suspicious vehicles. Detailed checks led to the seizure of 12,000 kg and 16,200 kg of areca nuts, respectively. The estimated value of the seized areca nuts in the international market is approximately Rs 2.5 crore. The seized items have been handed over to the customs department.
Six individuals were apprehended during the operations and have been handed over to the Machi and Tengnoupal Police Stations for further legal proceedings, according to a press note from the PRO, IGAR(S).
