Imphal: A one-day awareness program on child trafficking and child labour was held in Thoubal, organized by the District Child Protection Unit in collaboration with the District Administration. The event took place at the Counting Hall of the DC Office Complex, Thoubal.
During the program, Deputy Commissioner A. Subhash Singh highlighted the growing concerns over child trafficking and child labor in Manipur, stressing the severity of these crimes.
He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and informed about the dangers, especially when approached by agencies or individuals offering to send their children elsewhere for education or other benefits.
He advised thorough verification of the legitimacy of such offers through the concerned department and emphasized the need for prompt action in coordination with the police if any incidents arise.
The Deputy Commissioner also emphasized the importance of laws such as the JJ Act and the POCSO Act, which have been enacted to protect women and children from exploitation.
Resource persons at the event included Dr. Sapam Dilipkumar, Assistant Professor at MU, who discussed the issue of child trafficking and labor, and Advocate Thiyam Rajkishore, who spoke about the POCSO and JJ Acts. The program was attended by Additional SP Thoubal, the District Child Protection Officer, DLOs, police officers, and other personnel.
