Imphal: On Tuesday, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the local youth of Shangshak village, organized a mass tree plantation drive in Ukhrul district, Manipur.
This event was part of Assam Rifles’ ongoing eco-friendly initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges of large-scale deforestation and environmental degradation in Manipur, a state known for its rich natural resources and lush forest cover. The drive sought to raise awareness among the local community, especially the youth, about the importance of forest protection and nature conservation.
A total of 43 enthusiastic locals actively participated in the event, which began with a warm welcome and a speech highlighting the need to safeguard natural resources, particularly the forests. Following this, the participants, alongside Assam Rifles personnel, cleaned the area in and around the village. They then proceeded to plant 2,100 saplings along the Shangshak-Sorde road, part of State Highway 102A, and in public spaces throughout the village.
The local youth expressed their gratitude to Assam Rifles for educating them on environmental conservation and committed to protecting their natural resources, particularly the surrounding forests. They also pledged their support for future environmental initiatives led by Assam Rifles, according to a press note from the PRO, IGAR(S).
