Thoubal: The District Administration of Thoubal is set to launch a four-day intensive skill development initiative for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) residing in the district. This program is scheduled to take place from July 9th to July 12th, 2024, at the Rice Research Station.

Master trainers will lead the training sessions focused on “Kauna Grass Craft Products,” aiming to enhance the quality of these products. The program intends to expand technical knowledge, upgrade skills, build new competencies, and foster innovative thinking.

Kauna grass, known for its durability and eco-friendly properties, is woven into various utility products such as baskets, hampers, hats, and mats.

The District Administration has been actively initiating various skill development and income-generating programs in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, the Manipur State Livelihood Mission, Handloom and Handicrafts Cooperation, and various NGOs. Notably, products such as candles, incense sticks, and kauna items made by the IDPs were sold for Rs 1,39,360 during a sales event in November last year.

On June 28th of last year, the District Administration, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), launched candles made exclusively by the IDPs residing at the Kodompokpi Sports Complex Relief Centre. These products, named ‘Anouba Yening,’ have been made available to the public.
