Imphal: In his most scathing criticism yet of the ruling BJP government in Manipur, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday labelled the N Biren Singh-led government as the weakest in the state’s political history.
Keisham Meghachandra, president of the Manipur Congress, told reporters that the Chief Minister has failed to provide accurate or effective responses to the ongoing violence in the state. Instead of exercising its constitutional powers, the current Council of Ministers under Biren Singh has surrendered their authority to the Central government.
Meghachandra praised Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s statement on Manipur violence in Parliament on Monday.
Meghachandra asserted that major departments, including the police, have been rendered ineffective, and the prices of essential items have soared. The mismanagement and failure to implement various schemes have led to growing frustration among the populace.
“For the past 14 months, we’ve been hearing his statements about the violence in the state, but nothing has materialized. We can no longer trust his words; he is just a paper tiger,” Meghachandra said.
He also commended senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who accused the Modi government of orchestrating the violence in Manipur. Gandhi argued that the silence of all 72 Union Ministers, including the Prime Minister, indicated their tacit support for the “civil war.”
