Imphal: Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey commended the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal for its significant contributions towards advancing Manipur’s self-sufficiency and overall development.

Speaking at a consultation program on ‘Bioeconomy from Bioresources: Developing Women Entrepreneurship’ held at IBSD on Wednesday, Uikey highlighted IBSD’s pivotal role in research and outreach activities aimed at harnessing bioresources through biotechnological interventions. These efforts are geared towards fostering socio-economic growth in the North Eastern Region.

The Governor noted that since its inception, IBSD has conducted integrated studies to document and scientifically validate the bioresources of Northeast India. The institute focuses on value addition, innovation promotion, and fostering bioeconomy to support national initiatives such as ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Developed India’.

Highlighting the importance of such scientific research institutes, Governor Uikey stressed the need for coordinated efforts with institutions like CAU to leverage the abundant bioresource potential of Manipur. She also urged IBSD to conduct training programs for women in relief camps to nurture their entrepreneurial skills, thus enhancing their socio-economic sustainability.

During the program, Governor Uikey distributed candle-making materials to women entrepreneurs. The event was attended by Prof. Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director of IBSD, Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor of CAU Imphal, and Hungyo Worshang, Secretary of Science and Technology.
