Imphal: The Manipur Government on Tuesday dismissed “rumours and speculations” about the deployment of additional central security forces in response to the current situation in the state.

According to a statement issued by the state Home Department, the security personnel previously requisitioned outside Manipur for the conduct of the General Elections to the 18th Lok Sabha are simply returning to their original bases in the state.

“It is a matter of grave concern that many rumours and speculations are being circulated on social media and online messaging platforms about additional Central Security Forces being sent to Manipur,” the statement said.

The release emphasized that there is no basis for this speculation of military reinforcement and urged the public to ignore it as misinformation.

The government called on civil society organizations, media, and individuals not to amplify such false information, as it could inflame public sentiments and create a challenging environment for law enforcement agencies to operate effectively.

The release also warned against panic mongering through the fabrication and widespread sharing of unverified messages on social media and other mass media platforms. The government stated that such actions would be taken seriously, with appropriate measures against those responsible under relevant laws.

Reiterating that the State Government is taking all necessary measures to control the current situation and restore peace, the statement sought the cooperation of everyone to bring about normalcy and peace in the state.
