Shillong: The Indian Documentary Producers Association (IDPA) Award for Best Student Film at MIFF 2024 has been awarded to ‘Chanchisoa (Expectation)’, directed by Elvachisa Ch Sangma and Dipankar Das. The film was produced by the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film & TV Institute.
Maharashtra’s Minister for Cultural Affairs, Sudhir Mungantiwar, along with IDPA President Sanskar Desai, Festival Director and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting B Prithul Kumar, and actor Shekhar Suman, presented the award. The honor includes a trophy and a prize of Rs. 1 lakh.
This captivating short fiction explores themes of identity, love, and the human connection to nature within a household in the matrilineal society of Garo Hills. The film’s lush cinematography, intricate storytelling, and outstanding performances by the actors effectively convey the subtle yet significant strains within the family, marking it as a remarkable student film.
Elvachisa Ch Sangma, hailing from Meghalaya, specialized in cinematography. Her passion for filmmaking is driven by a desire to showcase unique stories from her culture. Dipankar Das, from North Lakhimpur, Assam, studied filmmaking and is eager to explore new cinematic experiences, committed to expanding his knowledge and appreciation of the world of cinema.
