Kohima: At least one active cadre of NSCN (K-rebel) was killed and another apprehended after a gunfight with the troops of the Assam Rifles in Mon district of Assam on Sunday evening.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs on movement of cadres for carrying out abduction and extortion in the general area of Sangsa village in Monday district, Assam Rifles launched an operation in the area, an official of the Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday.
On intercepting the cadres, the Assam Rifles troops were fired upon by the insurgents. The Assam Rifles troops retaliated. In the ensuing firefight, one insurgent has been killed while another insurgent has been apprehended.
One automatic rifle, one automatic pistol, grenades, ammunition and other war like stores have been recovered. As per intelligence inputs, insurgent cadres are reported to be from NSCN (K-Rebel) faction, the official added.
