Imphal: A massive forest fire that erupted near the villages of Songdo, T Chawangphai, and Mongjang, threatened to rapidly spread due to strong winds. Concerned villagers, facing limited resources and residing in sensitive areas, urgently sought assistance from the nearest Assam Rifles post located in Songdo village.
Responding swiftly, a team of Assam Rifles deployed in Sensitive Areas swiftly mobilised to the scene, equipped with water bowsers and firefighting gear while maintaining security in the region.
The team undertook its first priority of safe evacuation of farmers trapped in the jungle areas expeditiously and subsequently, three separate teams were dispatched to contain the spreading fire. Through focused and concerted efforts, the blaze was brought under control, ensuring the preservation of life and property.
The proactive intervention averted a potential disaster, safeguarding three remote villages from the ravages of the forest fire. Approximately 90 households and 650 villagers were spared from the threat of devastation, preventing chaos and turmoil, according to a press note from the PRO, IGAR(S).
