Imphal: Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey will attend the North East India Film Festival-2024, which will be held in Imphal on 3rd March, next month, a statement of the Raj Bhavan said here on Thursday.
The festival is being held in Imphal for the first time, and eight films out of which six from Assam, one each from Manipur and Meghalaya are being screened in the festival.
Earlier, a six-member delegation of the Organising Committee for the festival led by M Joy Singh, Commissioner (Art & Culture, IPR) called on the Governor at her residence and requested her to attend the inaugural ceremony.
The Governor also discussed the issues faced by the Manipuri cinema fraternity in the State and assured to extend support from the Raj Bhavan. The delegation discussed the possibility of opening a Censorship Branch Office in Manipur with the Governor.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed General-Officer-Commanding (GOC), 57 Mountain Division, Major General S.S. Kartikeya along with his spouse Priya Kartikeya called on the Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan Thursday.
While detailing the Governor of the prevailing situation in the State General Kartikeya also briefed about the security preparedness made by the Indian army units to face any eventuality in the State at any time and thanked the Governor for awarding citations on the eve of Republic Day to three army units presently deployed in Manipur.
Representatives of Iramdam Kanba Lup, United Committee Pukhao GP, Makeng Dolaithabi GP, and Village Protection Force called on the Governor and submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah through the Governor urging to abrogate Suspension of Operation (SoO) with the Kuki groups in the State.
