Imphal: Two Manipur State securities personnel died and got injured when Kuki militants launched a deadly attack with bombs and heavy firing in the border town of Moreh in the wee hours of Wednesday. The two deceased personnel have been identified as W Somorjit a resident of Malom and Havildar Takhelambam Saileshwor from Akham.
The Kuki militants attacked the police post near SBI Moreh resulting in the killing of the two personnel. The security forces also retaliated and gunfight lasted for more than one hour.
The body of W Somorjit and the two injured personnel were airlifted to Imphal while the body of Saileshwor is yet to reach Imphal.
Meanwhile, the government of Manipur has imposed total in Tengnoupal district since Monday as situation in Moreh became tense following the arrests of Phillip Khongsai and Hemokholal Mate prime accused in the killing of SDPO, Moreh Anandkumar on October 31.
Even as the situation remains volatile, the State Home commissioner has written to the Union Home Ministry specifically requesting the immediate deployment of helicopters for “emergency requirements” The letter urged to Home Ministry to station helicopters in Imphal to induct reinforcement and to ferry the injured.
