Nearly 3.5L contractual teachers get govt employee status in Bihar

Additional Chief Secretary (cabinet secretariat) S Sidharth told media persons that state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar approved a proposal mooted by Education department in this connection. The contractual teachers, would be known as Vishisht (special) teachers after getting government employee status following a notification to be issued soon, he added.

Patna: In an important decision, responding to demand of nearly 3.5 lakh teachers working on contract basis in schools, state cabinet on Tuesday decided to give them status of employee of Bihar government which would be of great benefits to them in terms of salaries and promotions.


As per estimate, nearly 4.5 lakh contractual teachers would be beneficiaries of latest decision of the government. They will get the status of government employee at their present pay scale itself and would also have the option to switch over to higher pay scale after clearing written exam, to be organised soon.

Sidharth said that contractual teachers would have to clear competency test in maximum of three attempts. Those clearing competency test would get the pay scale at par with teachers appointed through Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), he informed.


Additional Chief Secretary that competency test would be organised three times only giving contractual teachers to clear it in maximum of three chances. A separate decision would be taken by state government about those who would not clear the competency test or would not appear in test deliberately or due to other reasons, he added.
