Agartala: A Pocso court in Tripura’s Khowai district on Friday sentenced a Drawing Teacher to 20 years rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 for sexually harassing a 11-year-old male student.
Pocso Court Judge Shankari Das concluded the trial and passed judgment within three months of the filing of the complaint.
Ten months ago, the victim had gone to the accused Dhiman Roy to get coaching of drawing where the convict had sexually harassed the child in various ways. The victim kept everything secret initially, when signs of abuse became apparent on the body, he disclosed the incident to his parents.
Later, parents took him to a doctor and on September 3 this year, an FIR was lodged against the accused teacher at Teliamura police station. The police initiated an investigation under section 3 of the POCSO Act and IPC Section 506.
After completion of the investigation, police submitted a chargesheet in the court. Besides testimony of seven witnesses, including medical professionals, and evidence, the Judge sentenced the convict to 20 years of Rigorous Imprisonment.
