Science awareness programme for SC/ST ends in Manipur

Imphal: A two-day awareness programme on Science Education and Scientific applications as a future career for youth and students of Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Caste tribes in Manipur’s Ukhrul district concluded on Saturday last week.

The awareness programme was conducted by CREDO, a leading non-governmental organisation known for its advocacy on education and empowerment, under the sponsorship of the NCSTC Division, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

The programme aimed to bridge the gap in STEM education and create an inclusive platform for SC & SC students to explore and engage with various scientific concepts including interactive exhibits, hands-on experiments and presentations by students, providing a unique space for them to share their innovative ideas with peers, educators, and the community, Wangkhem Anand Singh, general secretary of CREDO, said

A Science Exhibition programme was also organised to nurture a scientific spirit among ST and SC students in Thoubal of Manipur. This initiative is designed to foster a love for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among students and provide them with an opportunity to showcase their creativity, talent and bring together young minds from diverse backgrounds to showcase their creativity, curiosity, and passion for science.

The overwhelming support from the media, educators, parents, and the local community played a pivotal role in making this event a resounding success, Anand added. 

Event Highlights

1. Student-Led Exhibits: Witnessed an array of brilliant projects and experiments, highlighting the innovative thinking and problem-solving abilities of talented Scheduled Tribe & Scheduled Caste students.

2. Hands-On Workshops: Renowned experts and educators conducted engaging workshops, providing students with firsthand experiences and insights into the exciting world of STEM.

3. Lecture Deliberation & Career Guidance: Information booths and sessions focused on enlightening students about diverse career opportunities in STEM, empowering them to dream big.

4. Workshops and Demonstrations: Renowned scientists and educators will conduct workshops and demonstrations, offering valuable insights and inspiring the next generation of scientists.

5. Interactive Sessions: Q&A sessions and panel discussions will facilitate meaningful interactions between students and professionals in the STEM field.

6. Painting Competition: More than 100 students participated in the competition to showcase their creativity and innovative ideas about science and its application.
