Imphal: Ten Opposition political parties have asked Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey to arrange a meeting of all political parties in Manipur with the Prime Minister of India to find a solution to the present conflict in the state.
Former Chief Minister O Ibobi said representatives of the ten political parties had already gone to New Delhi to seek appointment with the Prime Minister but no time was given to them.
As the Manipur crisis remained unresolved for over six months it was decided by the ten political parties to submit a memorandum to the Governor to ask the Prime Minister to come to Manipur and hold talks with all concerned parties.
If the Prime Minister is not willing to come to Manipur the representatives of the ten parties are ready to go to New Delhi, Ibobi said addressing the media here at the Congress office.
The ten political parties, AAP, AIFB, AITC, CPI, CPI(M), INC, 313(U), NCP, RSP, SS(UBT) informed the Governor that the ongoing conflict in Manipur is more than six months now. It has caused a huge loss of lives, and properties and displacement of more than 60,000 people. belonging to both communities. The living condition of the internally displaced people in relief camp is inhuman and far from satisfactory, it was added.
There are instances of sporadic killing, firing and kidnapping of people including students, thereby, leaving the people in great tension, uncertainty and untold hardships, especially to those living on the periphery. The social and economic lives of all sections of the society have been uprooted. There is still a lot of mistrust among the people it was stated.
The Peace Committee constituted by the Union Government has not done any visible work to restore peace and harmony in Manipur. Considering the complexities of the conflict in the state, a viable solution to the conflict can only be brought by the Union Government, it was further stated.
The Prime Minister of India is the only hope for bringing peace in the state and leaders of the ten political parties have resolved to approach the Governor to facilitate a meeting of all political parties in Manipur with the Prime Minister to find a solution to the conflict under his leadership and guidance.
Ibobi said the Governor appealed to use her office to hold a meeting of all political parties with the Prime Minister at the earliest to chart out a plan for resolving the present conflict in the best interest of all people of Manipur.
