New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday paid tributes to India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 134th birth anniversary.

Kharge said Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had said citizenship consists in the service of the country.

“Humble tributes to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru ji, the architect of modern India, the fearless sentinel of democracy and our inspiration on his birth anniversary,” he said.

“Pandit Nehru’s progressive thoughts furthered India’s social, political and economic development despite all challenges and encouraged the people of the country at every moment to live together, always putting the country first, without any discrimination.

The Congress President also posted a video on Pandit Nehru in which he is describing fear as the biggest enemy of humanity.

Earlier, Kharge visited Shanti Van, the memorial of Pandit Nehru, to pay his respects here.

“Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru has a vision of freedom of progress and justice. Bharat Mata today needs these values of her ‘Hind Ke Jawahar’, like an ideology, in every heart.
