Imphal: The jubilation in the Fencing Team came to light in the Shyama Prasaad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium brought by the Women’s foil team’s well-deserved Gold.
The drought of Gold Medals for the Fencing team was quenched by the Women’s Foil Team of Naorem Mina Devi, Waikhom Sonia Devi, Wanglembam Thoibi Devi and Khushboorani Laishram beating Haryana in a well-fought competition.
Earlier, in the day, the Men’s Epee team comprising Hijam Lemba Meitei, Gurumayum Bhiviyekar Sharma, Kangabam Kene Singh and Thongam Satish Meitei won the Bronze Medal.
“The changing scenario of the infrastructure and equipment of all the disciplines is an important factor. Fencing is one when our boys and girls are competing with other fencers groomed and trained in state-of-the-art infrastructure with the latest equipment,” L Birahari, manager of the Fencing Team said.
