Imphal: Manipur is making its presence felt in the ongoing 37th National Games, Goa in the arena of the newly introduced discipline Pencak Silat with a haul of three gold and five bronze medals in its maiden appearance.
In the much awaited and keenly watched final of the Pencak Silat’s Tanding bout Manipur’s Sanasam Sophia Chanu at the Campal Sports Complex, Panaji, won the hold making the grand appearance visible at the National Games.
With the gold earlier won by Yaikhom Anjali Devi in Tanding and Sinam Chingkhei and Sinam Jeevan, the Manipur Team has successfully amassed three gold medals in the discipline.
The five bronze medals won by Naorem Boynao, Huidrom Bishan, Yaikhom Kiran, Shamjetsabam Bidyaluxmi, Thingbaijam Dayalaxmi and Thokchom Benao make up the medal tally of three gold and five bronze medals earned for the state in Pancak Silat.
“We are happy with the performance of our young players and could have won more. The injury sustained during the bouts was unfortunate and we had to settle with the bronze medal this time,” L Ranjit Singh, the Team Coach said.
