Telangana Assembly polls: Congress declares first list of 55 candidates

Hyderabad: The Congress on Sunday released its much-awaited first list of 55 candidates for the 119-seat Tetalngana Assembly polls, featuring a number of top guns including state party chief A Revanth Reddy.

The list made public by the Congress Central Election Committee declares Revanth Reddy as the nominee from Kodangal constituency, and includes leaders like N Uttam Kumar Reddy (Huzurnagar), Komatireddy Venkat Reddy (Nalgonda), and Seethakka (Mulug).

Names of the party’s BC, SC, ST and minority leaders also feature in the list for the November 30 polls.

Congress screening committee chairman K Muraleedharan said the candidates for the remaining 64 seats would be finalised and announced in two or three days.

“First priority has been given to the winning prospects of the candidates and secondly, their loyalty to the party. A sincere effort has been made to do justice to leaders of all the communities,” he said.

The seats being sought by CPI and CPI-M and those constituencies where there is stiff competition among multiple aspirants have not been announced in the first tranche of candidates.

The screening committee and the CEC will hold further discussions with the aspirants and finalise the names for the remaining 64 seats in a couple of days.
