The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has nabbed Paolunmang, a 22-year-old male, in Pune, suspecting him of being the mastermind behind the mysterious case of two missing Manipuri students. These kids, Phijam Hemanjit (20) and Hijam Linthoingambi (17), were believed to have been murdered at first. On Friday, officials announced this critical development.
Paolunmang was arrested in Pune by a dedicated special investigation team from the CBI, who then transferred him to Guwahati to face charges. The court has already determined that he will remain in CBI custody till October 16, showing the seriousness of the allegations against him in this case.
This latest development follows the arrest on October 1 of two males, Paominlun Haokip and S Malsawm Haokip, as well as two women, Lhingneichong Baitekuki and Tinneilhing Henthang, by the CBI. These individuals had been investigated by the agency in connection with the case.
The disappearance of Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi began on July 6, when the two students went missing. On September 25, images apparently revealing their lifeless bodies surfaced, sparking indignation and violent protests, mostly driven by students.
Earlier, It went on to say that the State Police, in coordination with the central security authorities, are actively investigating the case to determine the circumstances behind the students’ disappearance and to find the offenders who murdered the two manipuri students. The security forces have also begun a search operation to apprehend the offenders.
In reaction to this tragic scenario, the government promises the people that all those involved in the kidnapping and murders of Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi would face prompt and firm action. The administration is dedicated to ensuring that justice is served and will punish any culprits proven to be responsible for this horrible act severely.
