US, Mexico, Canada launch initiative against 2026 FIFA World Cup collusion

Washington: The US, Mexico, and Canada jointly launched an initiative on Friday to tackle collusion related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to a release from the US Justice Department.


“The Justice Department announced today, alongside its partners from Mexico’s Federal Economic Competition Commission and Canada’s Competition Bureau, the launch of a joint initiative to deter, detect and prosecute collusive schemes related to the provision of goods and services in connection with the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” the release stated.


Through this initiative, the enforcement agencies will collaborate on antitrust investigations and outreach efforts to the public and businesses about anti-competitive conduct.


The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the three countries across eleven sites in the US, three cities in Mexico, and two cities in Canada. It is expected to bring in billions of dollars, including in the construction, entertainment, and tourism industries.
