Agartala: Despite registering vehicle growth of 20 percent in Tripura over the last three and a half years, the road traffic accident came down drastically by around 50 percent, police claimed in a statement here on Friday.
Claiming the success of its special drive on a mission mode to prevent road accidents, the statement said that besides the scientific assessment of accident spots and the reassessment of accident-prone zones, the timings of accidents on national and state highways have been reviewed over the past month, and a multi-dimensional approach including enforcement, the installation of barricades, stepped patrolling, and awareness generation activities with the line departments has yielded a better result.
“The road traffic accident in the last month after all such coordinated action has shown a 60 percent reduction, and injuries have also been reduced by 50 percent,” the statement said, adding that if compliance with traffic rules and guidelines followed by road users is properly followed, the number will be reduced further while suggesting the proper maintenance of roads and pavement shoulders.
