Santiago: A total of 25 people were killed in traffic accidents during Chile’s annual “Fiestas Patrias” independence celebrations from Sept. 15 to 19, Chilean authorities reported Wednesday.

Eleven people died as a result of being run over, six from crashes, four from collisions and another four from overturning of vehicles, according to the report.

Minister of Public Works Jessica Lopez said the deaths this year were fewer than those recorded in 2022, when 40 people died.
