Buenos Aires: Defensa y Justicia extended Boca Juniors’ poor start to the Argentine Primera Division season with a 1-0 home defeat of their Buenos Aires rivals on Friday.
Nicolas Fernandez put the hosts ahead against the run of play when he slotted a shot past goalkeeper Enrique Bologna following Gaston Togni’s through ball.
Boca Juniors completed more than twice as many passes as their opponents but lacked a cutting edge in the final third as they slumped to their third loss in four matches.
The result leaves Defensa y Justicia fourth in the 14-team Group B, while Boca is 12th.
In other Argentine Primera Division fixtures on Friday, Platense won 2-1 at home to Lanus, Independiente overcame Huracan 1-0 at home, and Estudiantes held Tigre to a goalless draw away from home.
