Laishram Sarita is now a Superintendent of Police

In 2009, she was awarded the Arjuna Award by the Government of India for her achievements.

Imphal: Former World Boxing Champion in the lightweight class, Laishram Sarita was promoted to the Superintendent of Police of the Manipur Police Department here on Wednesday.

The five-time world champion was offered the post of Sub-Inspector in 2005 by the Manipur police department for winning a bronze medal in the 3rd World Boxing Championship, in Russia and then was promoted to the rank of DSP in February 2010.

The 41-year-old veteran sportstar was born to Late Laishram Babuchand and Khomdonbi Devi in Khunou Thoubal district as the sixth of eight siblings. She studied at Waithou Mapal High School till the eighth standard and finished her matriculation from the Bal Bidya Mandir, Thoubal.
