Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday approved 416 new posts for Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), the biggest local self-government in the state keeping in view the rising population.
Patnaik said the initiative would protect the historical dignity of the heritage city and help the corporation become more efficient and proactive.
With this the total strength of the BMC has gone up from earlier 210 to 626.
Chief Minister’s office sources said the number of Additional Commissioner has been increased from earlier one to four, the number of Deputy Commissioner from three to 16 and the number of Assistant Sanitation Commissioneri n from 4 to 13.
Similarly the strength of Civil Executive officers have been increased from two to six.
This apart six new Zonal Commissioner posts, 11 new posts in the finance department, 17 in the Engineering department, 13 in social welfare department, 19 in Enforcement department and 187 posts in ward office section were created
Twenty new posts in Drainage department, five in sanitation department and 67 new ward officers posts have also been created in the Corporation.
