Normal life disrupted amidst transport strike in Manipur

The transporters said some trucks coming towards capital Imphal were stopped by unknown armed miscreants near Kaiphundai and Tamenglong.

Imphal: The normal life was thrown out of gear in the state on Sunday following a 48-hour long strike called by the transporters and drivers union to protest against a recent attack on trucks by armed miscreants.

The transporters said some trucks coming towards capital Imphal were stopped by unknown armed miscreants near Kaiphundai and Tamenglong. “They resorted to heavy firing towards the trucks. Four trucks were hit by bullets but luckily no one was injured,” the agitators said.

The highways wore a deserted look Sunday as the passenger services remained off. The strike will continue till April 19 midnight.

All Jiribam Road Transport & Driver’s Union, All Manipur Road Transport Driver’s & Motor Workers Union, Senapati District Drivers’ Welfare Union and Surface Transport Hill Areas Drivers’ Welfare Union and other truck and driver’s bodies supported the strike.
