Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Saturday launched a mission renaming as many as 75 flanking villages of the state along the 856 –km border with Bangladesh after the freedom fighters of India’s independence to mark the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the freedom struggle.
Launching the mission renaming the border village – 75 Seemanta Gram Kranti Veero Ke Naam, at Sabroom in South Tripura, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for enabling the nation to remember the forgotten heroes of India’s freedom movement.
“The country is now remembering the unsung heroes of India who were previously overlooked despite their significant contributions. We conducted an event to reach out to every family to ensure good governance, and on August 15 last year, we also celebrated ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ to ensure the hoisting of the national tri-colour in every house successfully to sensitise people about the value of independence, Dr Saha said.
Tripura shares an international border with Bangladesh, and the state government has selected 75 villages where various programs will be organized on India’s freedom movement, which was initiated by PM Modi on March 12, 2021.
The programme to recall the contribution of freedom fighters to the country’s independence is scheduled to be completed by August 15 this year. The border villages spread across all eight districts, and the administration had already prepared a list of freedom fighters from the state and their contributions to the country’s freedom struggle.
The statutes of the 75 freedom fighters will be erected in these villages, and their family members will be felicitated by the government, he said, adding that various events—marathon, bicycle rally, krantiveer musical concert, sit and draw, songs, and drama on the lives and work of freedom fighters—will also be organised to mark the occasion.
The government will also ensure 100 per cent implementation of all schemes sponsored by the centre and the state in the identified villages, for which the Central government sanctioned Rs 3.13 crore.
“We will involve all sections of people, from students to elderly people.” The department will go for a massive campaign on media and social media platforms to recall the country’s glorious freedom struggle, said the Secretary to the CM, Dr P K Chakraborty.
