Manipur govt launches Rehab Scheme for college students

Imphal: Manipur’s Education Minister Th Basanta Singh Friday launched the ‘Chief Minister’s College Students Rehabilitation Scheme’ (CMCSRS), which aimed a providing the required educational facilities to the displaced and affected undergraduate students studying in the government and govt-aided colleges of Manipur because of the prevailing social unrest in the state.

Speaking to media persons here, the Minister said that the objectives of the scheme include facilitation of transfer for students from the present college to a new college as per request made by the students.

The new scheme will provide free admission/waiver for affected students in the government and government-aided colleges of Manipur for the academic session 2023-24, he contended.

The scheme which was launched under the banner ‘Education knows no barrier’, aimed at providing monetary grants to the affected students for purchase of books, stationary, uniforms and other requirements for continuing with their education.

The Minister further informed that the components of the scheme will have two categories – Directly affected students and Inter-College transfer facility. 

Under the first category, the government will facilitate transfer of students to a new college as per request. Apart from that the government will provide Rs 5,000 to 9000 for admission as per the stream/subject offered. A one-time rehabilitation grant of Rs 10,000 will be directly transferred to the students’ accounts for purchase of books/stationary/uniform and other expenditure.

Free smartphones under CMCMESS  (Chief Minister’s College Maheiroi e-Support Scheme) will be provided to students and provision of free sanitary pads and sports equipment under UHEHFS (for girl students) is also included in the first category, Basanta added.

Under the second category, the Minister said, transfer of students to new colleges will be allowed as per request. Moreover, admission amount ranging from Rs 5,000 to 9000 as per the stream/subjects offered, will be provided to the students.

Basanta said the scheme is a one-time and will be implemented only in 2023-24 in view of the prevailing serious law and order situation in the state. However, it’s subject to continuation in the following years as deemed fit by the government, he added.

Those affected students studying in the government and government aided colleges of Manipur could apply online in a given portal/link to be notified later to avail benefits under the scheme.

The notification for application shall be published in major newspapers of the student and announced in AIR/Local TV channels. The eligible students will be given sufficient time to apply onlyline for the scheme.
