Imphal: A young boy, studying at Class XII, lost his life after he was allegedly shot while returning to a relief camp where his mother is currently taking refuge at Moirang on Friday morning.
The incident happened around 4.30 am as the victim, 19-year-old Mayengbam Rickey Meitei, of Kwakta Moirang Turel Mapal, came on a scooter after his father advised him to leave the village immediately after suspected Kuki militants started firing towards his village.
While the boy was riding toward Moirang, some 4 km from Kwakta village, some Kuki militants hiding in a nearby bush ambushed and killed him on the spot.
Police personnel from Moirang police station, Bishnupur district headquarters and other security personnel rushed to the area but they were not able to retrieve the boy yet, reports said.
Meanwhile, many women folk in Moirang launched a sit-in against the killing of the boy.
