Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said that his government has been taking all measures to restore peace and harmony in the state. The state government would try to ensure the safety of all communities and also to live together as before, Biren said while briefing media persons here on Monday.
He continued by saying that the situation in the state was returning to normal. Other than some small incidents happening at different places, timely intervention by security forces and cooperation from the public had made it possible for the state to return to normalcy gradually, he added.
Stating that the government has been making all efforts to secure the safety of the people, he appreciated all the security forces deployed in the state for their contribution to restoring peace and tranquility.
Security personnel have been deployed in different parts of the state to prevent any untoward incident, the chief minister said, adding that the government has decided to propose 20 more companies of security forces to the centre.
Narrating the firing incident that happened at Moidangpok village in Imphal West district on Sunday evening, which led to the injuries of three villagers, Biren said security personnel conducted a search operation the whole night. He disclosed that one person had been arrested along with a shotgun.
Regarding the incident that happened Monday at New Lambulane, he informed that three people have been arrested along with two licence guns.
Biren appealed to the public to refrain from mob violence… Action would be initiated, as per law, against all those who instigated or caused violent activities, regardless of the community they belong to. He also urged the public to inform the concerned authority, if they saw any wrongdoing being carried out so that swift action could be taken to control it.
The Chief Minister further appealed to the public to have faith in the government and sought the cooperation of all in bringing the state towards normalcy. Urging the public to refrain from spreading unverified and unfounded information, he appealed not to carry out any activity that would hurt the sentiment of other communities and instigate violence among different communities. Let us forget and forgive those things that have already happened and make the restoration of peace our priority, he said.
