New Delhi: South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin, who arrived here today on a two-day visit, held talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on taking forward the bilateral Special Strategic Partnership.
The South Korean Foreign Minister, who is on his first official visit to India, also called on Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, during which the two sides highlighted the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, being marked this year.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in a tweet, said: “Glad to welcome @FMParkJin of Republic of Korea on his first official visit to India.
“Our discussions today will take forward our Special Strategic Partnership.
कोरिया गणराज्य के विदेश मंत्री पार्क जिन का स्वागत करते हुए प्रसन्न हूँ।“
He also tweeted a line in Hindi welcoming the South Korean Foreign Minister.
The Vice President’s Office in a tweet said: “FM of the Republic of Korea @FMParkJin called on Hon’ble @VPIndia Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar today.
“Highlighting the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the leaders discussed the significance of cultural & people-to-people ties in strengthening India-Korea Special Strategic Partnership.”
Earlier, on his arrival in the afternoon, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson in a tweet welcomed the foreign dignitary on his first official visit to India.
“As India-Korea celebrates its 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, the visit will strengthen our Special Strategic Partnership,” he said.
The South Korean Foreign Minister leaves for Chennai on Saturday morning on a day-long visit.
On January 30, EAM S Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin, during which they discussed bilateral ties and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
The South Korean Foreign Minister was also in Delhi in March for the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
Earlier, the South Korean Foreign Ministry in a statement said that the meeting between the two foreign ministers is the first one between them as they mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year.
“In the meeting, the two sides will discuss ways to make substantive progress in the Special Strategic Partnership between Korea and India, which is a key country in the region that shares values with Korea.”
“Foreign Minister Park will also visit Chennai, the economic center of South India, and engage in activities related to economic issues, including a visit to a Korean company,” it said.
